Before investing in tools, data, or training, an organization needs its leadership to agree on why they are pursuing AI, what business outcome they expect, and how they will measure success. Without this alignment, AI projects become disconnected experiments that compete for resources and deliver conflicting signals to the organization.

An AI readiness assessment provides the diagnostic foundation for every subsequent investment decision. It prevents two common mistakes: overestimating capabilities (leading to failed pilots) and underestimating capabilities (leading to missed opportunities).

Most pilots fail not because the AI underperforms, but because the pilot was never designed to succeed. Common failure patterns: unclear KPIs, no baseline for comparison, no assigned owner, and no defined path from pilot to production. A well-designed pilot has a clear scope, measurable success criteria, a champion who owns the outcome, and a go/no-go decision date.
